Emergency Preparedness
The NASD is a local leader in pursuing the resources and staffing to ensure our ability to respond to any potential emergency.
Physical Security
Our primary responsibility is to the physical safety of our students. The NASD meets or exceeds all of the Tier 1 Physical Safety Security criteria of the Commonwealth.
Notification
Communication with staff, students, emergency responders, and parents is essential to our emergency operations plan. The NASD uses several different means to communicate during emergencies, from losing power in a school to a violent intruder.
Emergency Response Preparation
NASD Police Department
The NASD is one of a few Pennsylvania Districts that have their own police department, recognized by the Municipal Police Officers' Commission of PA. Our officers are on hand to deter and address any physical threat. In addition, as being recognized as police officers by the Commonwealth of PA, the officers have the ability to issue criminal citations if/when necessary.
All Officers, as well as our Security Guards, are trained according to the National Association of School Resources Officers' "Triad" approach to school policing. In addition, our officers and guards are trained in Tact-2 De-Escalation procedures. Understanding that our security personnel is the most likely to respond to an issue within the school, our Officers and Guards are also trained in CPR, AED, and First Aid response.
