NASD Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (A-TSI) Plan For 2024 - 2025:
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) calls for each state to identify schools needing support. In Pennsylvania, the process identifies two designations:
Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI): Schools facing the most significant challenges in academic achievement, student growth, and other areas; and
Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (A-TSI): Schools in which performance by one or more student groups is at or below the level of the CSI schools.
Pennsylvania’s approach to ESSA implementation emphasizes collaboration between state and local stakeholders to identify and address the root causes for existing problems, to implement appropriate and evidence-based corrective actions, and to carefully monitor the pace of improvement.
In the 2019-2020 school year, Northampton Area School High School was identified as an A-TSI school for our special education subgroup and was required to remain on that plan for 3-years until the conclusion of the 2021 - 2022 school year.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 3-year improvement plan was extended for one (1) year by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The 1-year extension of the A-TSI plan went into effect during the 2022 - 2023 school year. In February 2023, Northampton Area School District was notified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) that we had made gains in some areas, but we did not show enough evidence to meet the criteria to exit A-TSI designation. During the 2023 - 2024 school year, we were also notified by PDE again that even though some gains continued to be made, we were designated on another one (1) year plan for the 2024 - 2025 school year.
The attached plan is a copy of our 2024 - 2025 A-TSI plan that was developed this past March 2024 by our A-TSI Steering Committee. PDE has indicated that another review of our designation will occur in the Fall of 2024.
